Pantographs

I'm scared of them. I've yet to try one on my frame, I wouldn't even know what to choose. How do I switch from quilting all this time from the front and all of a sudden quilt from the back?? I have a lazer, I even have Quilt Cad software but I'm afraid to try. I don't know where to begin.

I'd like to give this a shot in the coming year. If anyone could throw some beginner pantograph tips my way I would really, really appreciate it.

Yeah, keep me posted on any tips that you get, too! Although, I am going to try to read through the paperwork that I have and hopefully figure something out....

Of course, I don't have a clue how to do it either, but it is great that you want to learn. This is being discussed on the Grace frame yahoo group right now.

Jen, I have bought many of those paper ones, but only used them a couple of times...and I hate them. I prefer free motion anytime. I just can't get used to quilting from the "other side" of the frame.

Check out this PDF (http://www.longarmuniversity.com/pdf%20files/Pantograph%20Instructions%20.pdf) from Longarm University. It gives some really good info. Good luck.

Also Happy Birthday! Hope you're not snowed in like we are.

I've used them a few times. The most important thing to remember is that you have to look 'ahead'. Don't watch where the laser is touching on the pattern, keep your eyes one or two inches ahead of the laser and your hands will follow naturally. After a little bit of practice you will get into a rhythm. And the most important lesson I learned: if you screw up.... don't stop and try and fix it.... just keep going, you won't even notice it once you're done.
The only problem I have is lining up the next row, I think I need a little more practice in that area.
It really isn't any different than quilting from the front of the machine, you'll catch on quickly!
