As if I needed another reason not to get on an airplane...

Those of you close to me know that I have a fear of flying and its not like I needed another reason to not board a plane but this article sure did the trick:

http://www.beyondallergy.com/food-allergies/airline-peanuts-theyre-back.php

Now I realize other people bringing peanuts on an airplane is something they can't control; I'm ok with that. But, to blatantly bring them back as an airline snack that gets handed out and basically opened all at the same time is ridiculous!!!

My peanut allergy is an issue whether I injest them or inhale. My lungs close and I itch like crazy. When we go to Brewer games if peanut eaters are around we either have to move to another area or we find a table in the open air areas to sit at. Should I get to the point; and I've been close a few times, of actually using my epi pen I have 15 minutes in which to get to an ER.

How does one get to an ER that fast if they are in a plane? Especially considering the airline is viewing an epi pen as a life saving, end of the issue type fix?

Wow, that stinks. My dad and two of my nephews also are allergic to peanuts and my dad travelled for a living! He usually had trouble on a "two-nut" flight, where there was enough time to pass out nuts twice. At least there are still a few other airline options that are staying nut free!

My son is the same with all nuts-not just peanuts. It amazes me the inconsideration people have towards this life threatening allergy. My son was reminding the basketball coach recently that he was allergic-he said it more than once to make sure he heard him. One of the other mom's behind me make a comment "he heard you already" I turned around and explained to her how proud I was of him to be sticking up for himself because if he ingests a nut the coach would then have 20 minutes to get him to a hospital or he would start suffocating-HMPH! Deal with a real life issue with yourself or you kid then tell me how many times you repeat yourself!!

Wow that stinks.. I flew all the way to Guam and the airlines never served peanuts and you know what I am good with that.. Dad is allergic to all nuts and My brother just to peanuts so I am careful about alot of things that I buy even for things that were fried in peanut oil and packaged where there may have been peanuts

Hi there, I just stumbled onto your blog from a friend's link. I was wondering, since it's a life threatening allergy can't you talk to the airline ahead of time and have them skip the nuts? I seem to recall being on a flight once where they mentioned it was a "nut free" flight...but maybe not all airlines will do that. I have food allergies myself, but I'm fortunate that it's not life threatening and I have to ingest them to become ill.
