"Good" Scissors

When I was a kid there was one pair of scissors that was completely off limits - my mom's Green Handled Scissors. Those were sacred.

Of course, it's thirty some years later and they're no longer her "GOOD" scissors.  To her they are just scissors.  However, it still makes me cringe every time I see her cutting through paper with them.

My mom's were orange, but I know just what you mean! They are paper scissors now too.

My mom had some of those - they were all metal, and they are still as sharp today as they were then. She has them sharpened regularly. They're heavy and they have a very specific spot in a very specific drawer so you know there is something special about those shears...

She got me a pair when I started sewing in high school. My name is engraved on them, but I haven't had mine sharpened - EVER.

Jen, you are so right.....it was my grandma's scissors that were off limits to us kids.....I can still hear her asking, "Are you using my good scissors?"

It is hard for anyone who is not a person who sews to understand the forbidden sewing scissors. It was a struggle with my kids the whole time they were growing up.

Funny......and don't blame you. I have put an off limits on my scissors too and my husband will ask if he can use a pair before he begins cutting...he knows better!

I refuse to buy 'good' scissors until all the kids move away!
