Quilts on Barns - #109 Kayak

Kayak is located at N2408 Bethel Road in Monroe, WI.  This block was ridiculous to find - we had tried to find it both previous times we were in Green County.  We knew it was hung because there was a picture on the website.  This time, Mike and I made a pass and didn't see it.  As we were driving we saw a State Trooper sitting in a parking lot so we decided to ask if he had any idea.  Luckily, he did.  It was actually outside of town but only a handful of blocks from where we were looking.  We never would have found it with the odd address that is shown on the site.

Spring Quilt Market 2010 - Part 5

I almost crammed this last bit into yesterdays post but then I figured I'd be boring my audience to death with another slide show.  While we were in the Fabric Manufacturer booths, I took pictures of all of the yummy quilts made up with their fabrics.

All I have to say is, if you're a local quilter your had better be signed up for the Post Market Review on July 7th...there are a LOT of goodies that we brought back!!

Quilts on Barns - #108 Blowing in the Wind

Blowing in the Wind is located at W7843 County P in Browntown, WI.  This location actually has a few wind  turbines on their property so the name of the block is very appropriate.
The "Blowing in the Wind" quilt is based on the Lafayette Orange Peel quilt pattern, with a color scheme of smoky emerald (green), golden valley (gold), casa deoro (yellow) and irish plum (purple); the background is sky blue, representing the clean air made possible by renewable wind and solar energy, not fossil fuels.

Spring Quilt Market 2010 - Part 4

Sample what can I say besides that was really freaking cool??

First, you wait in line for hours.  Then you hear through the grape vine that some things are already sold out because vendors get excited and buy from other vendors.

For those of you who haven't been there, the idea behind sample spree is for a quilt shop to get their hands on the fabrics that they won't actually get into their shops for another few months.  This way Shop Samples can be made.  Depending on the vendor at sample spree (not all are there), you might be able to buy new patterns or notions too.  I didn't take many pictures but what I do have is pretty funny.  Think Feeding Frenzy.

This first picture is the Moda table at Sample Spree. What you can see are all the people swarming around. What you can't see is how mounded the tables are with fabric because I couldn't get in to get a good shot. Just imagine it. Imagine all sorts of fat quarter bundles.  Think swarms of people.

If your Moda rep loves you, like ours does, they'll run in, get all the goods and then let you paw through the bags for what you want and what you don't want.

Now, remember how I told you to imagine the piles of fat quarter bundles? Well, this is the aftermath...

Empty tables...

I forgot in yesterdays post to put the slideshow from all of the pictures I took during school house. So, here it is:

Spring Quilt Market 2010 - Part 3

I'm saving my most favorite School House Session for very last.

We went to see Amy Barickman of Indygo Junction speak about her new book that comes out on September 1st called Vintage Notions.  Amy's BLOG can be found HERE.  I'm really not sure how to describe her new book except to say it's going to be pretty cool!  If you click the Vintage Notions book, it will take you to Amy's book pre-order page where she has PDF files that you can open to see some sneak previews of her book.

Vintage Notions: An Inspirational Guide to Needlework, Cooking, Sewing, Fashion and Fun

I went to Eleanor Burns' session on her new book Quilt Blocks on American Barns.  I mean it's only right that the Barn Quilt addict go to this session, Right??  Her BLOG can be found HERE.

Eleanor's session was hilarious - as every session of hers I've ever seen.

I'm sure right now you're shocked to see that Eleanor's session is not last.  So what could I possibly have up my sleeve?

Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.  Not only is she awesome, but she's written a book called Friendship Triangles.  O.M.G.  The idea behind the book is a half square triangle exchange.  Using pre-printed triangle paper you make as many HST's as you want, cut them apart but DO NOT iron OR pull off the paper.  You then swap them.  As many as you decide to swap, you get back from the swapping pool.  Then, using her book of patterns you make a quilt or a project out of these HST's.

Sooooo, anyone interested in a HST swap?  If so, leave a comment - make sure your email address is available or add that into your comment.  Once I get your comment I'll email you the details!

I'm really, really excited!!  I mean look at the cool things you can make (these are from the book, the possibilities are endless!!)

This sums up School House.  Next we'll move onto the other fun Spring Market things that I've seen!
