Block #13 – Cornucopia – Racine County

Your block will finish to 6”. This means that it will physically measure 6-1/2” X 6-1/2” before it is sewn to other blocks.

Cutting Instructions & Piecing Locations for 6” Paper Pieced Block:

(2) 3-1/2” Squares – Black – A2, C4

(2) 2-1/4” Squares – Black, sub-cut into 4 pieces – B2, C2, D2, E2

(3) 2-1/4” Squares – Yellow, sub-cut into 6 pieces – F2, G2, H2, I2, J2, K2

(3) 2-1/4” Squares – Blue, sub-cut into 6 pieces – B1, C1, D1, E1, H1, I1

(4) 1-3/4” X 3” Rectangles – Blue – F1, G1, J1, K1

(2) 3-1/2” X 4” Rectangles – Blue – A1, A3

(3) 2-1/4” X 4-1/4” Rectangles – Red – C3, D3, H3

(3) 2-1/4” X 4-1/4” Rectangles – Green – C5, E3, I3

**You will want to Download the file and then print the .pdf file.  When you print, make sure that scaling is turned off enabling the document to print at 100%.  Take a moment to measure.  The Solid Line along the Bottom edge of section A should measure 6".  If you print directly from the Google Docs screen you might come out with a slightly smaller sized block.**

Comfort Quilt

I just finished putting the last stitches into a backing for a comfort quilt.  A very near and dear to me friend was recently diagnosed with Ovarian Caner.  A few other ladies were talking about making a comfort quilt for her with the Ovarian Cancer line of fabric from Blank Quilting.  It dawned on me that those were the same fabrics from the $2 buck a block thangle blocks that I had been working on recently.  Since I wasn't sure what I was ever going to do with my blocks, I asked if they would like them for the back of the quilt.  Next thing I knew, my mom and Vogues were offering up their blocks too.  35 blocks for the quilt backing was a perfect use for them.  I'm so glad that these are going to a good home.  Hopefully this quilt will offer some comfort during this horrible time.

It's not an optical illusion, the side borders are wider than the top and bottom - and it's not the best picture I've ever taken!!  The borders weigh next to nothing next to the seam heavy center so it doesn't exactly want to hang right when held up for a picture.  I needed to make the borders different to make it the proper size for Diane to toss on the frame.

Well...

It looks like I may actually enter a few quilts in The Crazy Quilters guild show. My form is filled out and my check is written and it will be mailed tomorrow. Two of my three need official hanging sleeves but I think I can handle that between now and next Friday.





I'm scared out of my mind!!  Here's what I'm entering.

  

Awww crap, I think I just thought of another thing that I could enter since I'm entering and it's only another $1.  I guess I gotta go re-write my check!

At this point, it's pretty much just about getting over my fear of entering a quilt show.  That's the goal.

Baby Quilts

I just finished up the baby quilts for Aubrie & Delaney!  They turned out SOOOOO cute!!

The twins were born on March 18th and are already off all tubes and it sounds like they will be moving to open cribs later this week.  I hang my head in shame, I haven't dropped off the quilt for Beth yet.  Sigh, I mean well.  I just didn't want to impose.

Now I just have to decide what to do for Cooper and Timmy.  I know one of them is getting Brown Bear, Brown Bear - probably a Quad Monet quilt.  The other quilt I'm torn between Noodle in a Haystack and a Puzzle quilt.  So many ideas, so little time!!

Just finished 6 more 8" thangles blocks. If I never have to use another Thangle I'll be a happy girl. I'll take triangle paper or Triangulations any day!

Unexpected Surprise!

My friend Diane did an awesome blog post about me today.  See, I was supposed to email her with a few of my choices and I kept forgetting about it.  It's an AWESOME article!!  She ROCKS!!

Got a few projects done

Might not have been everything that I had hoped to accomplish but that was a ridiculous goal anyway!!

I got the final two blocks done.  As of yesterday they've found a new home in a comfort quilt that will be made by a group later this week.  Now I don't have to worry about how to set them in a quilt!

Next I made a pillow case for a friend of mine who truly is the Pillow Case Queen.  I figure she's made so many for others, yet I doubt she's ever made herself one.

Last up, I made a notebook wrap for my friend Diane's Birthday out of Sweetwater's newest fabric line.

On that note, I called it a night.  Realizing that I have a ridiculous amount of things left to accomplish this week.

5 down, 2 to go!

I started working on blocks this morning when I got up.  I was able to get 5 assembled.

Hopefully when I get home from work I can get a quilt or two quilted, the last two blocks made and a notebook wrap made.  Actually I need 3 wraps but that might be a bit too ambitious for an evening!

Migraines...

Every time I think I've got them figured out they prove me wrong.  For the last two days I've been plagued.  Yesterday it was more that my face hurt.  I was beginning to wonder if it was sinus related.  My right jaw/cheek and up into my temple was so tight and tender.  I ended up sleeping my face turned onto a heating pad.  However, that didn't prove to be too bright because I think I burned my cheek a bit.  It's pretty pink and tender today - but the muscles are no longer tight.  Today my head felt like it was going to explode and I was rather light sensitive.  All I wanted to do was lay on the couch and listen to TV but Nooooooo our AT&T U-verse died...again.  U-verse is now dead to Mike.  I think we're headed back to Time Warner.  Sigh.  It never ends.

In the mean time I've put the borders on the Twin's baby quilts.  I even mitered the corners.  The miters turned out great, they're just not perfectly lined up because that's the nature of trying to cut border prints to be equal.  That's ok, I'm happy with them.  Now I just need to get them quilted and bound.  Hopefully sometime this week.

I was able to sew and cut all of the remaining 7 blocks worth of  HST's for the Buck A Block BOM that I pulled out to work on.  Paper is torn off.  Hopefully I can assemble the blocks yet this week too.

Needle Book

I designed a new needle book that I’m pretty excited about.  It’s just the cutest thing?

I need to get my hands on some more twill tape.  In the mean time I just used ribbon from my stash to make this cutie:
 

    

Happy National Quilting Day!

I managed to do NO quilting today.  =(  Tomorrow's outlook looks better.  On Friday night Jen & I went to the West Suburban Quilt Guild's Quilt Show at Mount Mary.

Jen has this thing with having to touch quilts...so she touched every one of her Mom's and we decided to take funny pictures.  I told her next show we go to I'm getting her a shirt that says, "I touch quilts." and getting her a pair of white gloves.

$2 Buck A Block Thangles BOM

I made a few blocks for my $2 Buck A Block Thangles Block of the Month that have been languishing since last year.  I have 7 more to make.

I've been playing around with some different settings for this quilt.  Not quite sure yet what I want to do, but I'll cre8te something cool.
